Dear Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,
Congratulations on being named the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia.
It must have been a bittersweet moment for you after you were sworn in by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara this morning.
Bitter and sweet due to the past turmoil that you faced with the party you once belonged to – Umno – leading you to join former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2018.
Some are elated with your appointment. Others feel cheated and betrayed over the whole fiasco.
Twentytwo13 has, over the past week, raised several questions aired by the people.
What will Perikatan Nasional, the new coalition comprising Parti Pribumi Malaysia, Umno, PAS, MCA and MIC, with Gabungan Parti Sarawak being an ally, be all about? What are the plans, policy and philosophy?
How will it affect the people?
You will agree that lessons can be learnt from BN and Pakatan Harapan ministers who performed poorly but remained arrogant during their time in office. Some of them have joined forces with you.
Poor communication, failure to engage with stakeholders and at times adopting the “I know best” approach are just some of the gripes from the people. Such antics must not be repeated.
The people would like to know what will happen to the high-profile trials, including those involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi which have caught worldwide attention.
And if these cases continue, will the services of private lawyers Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram and Datuk V. Sithambaram (hired during Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’ brief reign as Attorney-General to act as prosecutors) be retained?
More importantly, will the political uncertainty continue when Dewan Rakyat resumes with claims that over 100 MPs support Dr Mahathir?
It will not be an easy ride. We wish you all the best.
And always remember – it is the rakyat that matters most.
Yours truly,
Twentytwo13
