Vinod Sekhar: Covid-19 has exposed weaknesses in society’s socio-economic programmes

Datuk Vinod Sekhar, AsiaOne’s Person of the Year 2020-21, hopes his award would spur other business and economic leaders to operate differently in a post-Covid-19 world.

The chairman and chief executive of Petra Group received his award during a virtual ceremony earlier today.

“The pandemic has exposed weaknesses in our society and our socio-economic programmes,” said Vinod.

“Business, and economic leaders can no longer step away from social development.

“We have to be a part of societal development. We make our money off the strength of our society, and the community. We make money off the environment and the strength of our environment.

“We have to play a role in uplifting the environment around, and the community we live in, and work from.”

Vinod said the award was a recognition of Petra’s good work worldwide, and added that it was an honour not just for him, but for his entire team.

“We believe in social capitalism. But, more importantly, we believe in sustainable wealth creation that lifts everyone around us as we move forward,” he said.
