The government has further relaxed rules for certain industries as the number of Covid-19 cases continues to drop in Malaysia.
Here’s what you need to know following Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s press briefing today:
Tourism bubble
You can now travel. But before you start packing your bags, be warned:
- You can only travel from one Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) destination to another RMCO area using tour agency vehicles.
- Tour agencies will get travel approval from the police. You don’t have to get the approval.
- If you start your journey from an RMCO area and pass through a Conditional MCO area, you don’t stop, you don’t detour – go straight to your RMCO destination.
Why can’t I drive my vehicle?
“It will be difficult for police to monitor. With a tour bus, the police will be able to ensure you stay on course,” said Ismail Sabri.
Ismail Sabri also said Langkawi – a tourist destination – will be under RMCO starting tomorrow.
The CMCO, however, remains in force in the rest of Kedah. The island is a green zone, with the last two cases registered on Feb 20.
Other areas under CMCO from March 5-18 are Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Kelantan, Sarawak, Penang, Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Those in RCMO are Melaka, Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah, Putrajaya, Labuan and Perlis.
Live events on, musicians can jam in hotel lounges
Live events in CMCO and RMCO areas are now allowed. This is because the Movement Control Order has impacted the work of 30,000 people in the creative industry, 10,000 musicians and 45 big-scale events which have a workforce of about 300,000.
CMCO – attendance is only 50 per cent of the venue space. Physical distancing and SOPs must be observed at all times.
RMCO – attendance is based on the space of the premise with physical distancing in place.
What are live events?
Official government functions, music, dance, arts and comedy.
Where can such events be held?
Strictly at licensed locations like convention centres, galleries and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) areas.
Tickets for these events can only be sold online
Outside shooting for films and commercials is allowed in CMCO and RMCO areas.
You can be entertained while drinking your pricey teh tarik at hotel lounges. Bands are now allowed to serenade their audience but band members must be at least 2m apart.
