Sponsors of the upcoming Karnival Segalanya Felda value the potential economic and networking opportunities from the three-day event.
Scheduled from July 12-14 at the Malaysia Exposition Park Serdang in Selangor, the event by Malaysia’s Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is being held in conjunction with Settlers’ Day (Hari Peneroka). The carnival has attracted numerous big brands in Malaysia, including local banking giants Maybank, and Abra Group.
Settlers’ Day is celebrated annually, as a one-day affair. This is the first time Felda has turned it into a three-day celebration, with some 500,000 stakeholders and visitors expected to throng the venue.
“Maybank is excited to sponsor and support Hari Peneroka Felda 2024, to connect with Felda settlers of all generations and their wider communities,” said Maybank in a statement.
“We expect this year’s programme to draw in record participation, especially from outside Greater Kuala Lumpur. The extended format allows for a richer, immersive programme, packed with activities.
“This event will certainly boost the local economy, through increased spending on food, transportation, and merchandise, and further strengthen community bonds, making it a truly memorable week for Maybank as well.”
Maybank added that the event honoured the legacy of the settlers and their pioneering spirit that helped transform Malaysia.
“For the country, Hari Peneroka is an opportunity to foster a sense of pride, especially among the younger generation about the community’s achievements and contributions in closing the economic gap, and also in agriculture and rural development.”
At the carnival, Maybank will guide its clients on its financial products and services, including financing for micro businesses, and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Shariah-compliant investment products, and explore the benefits of its MAE mobile application for seamless banking and goal-based investments.
“On environmental sustainability, consumers and businesses can learn how to reduce their carbon footprint through Maybank’s initiatives that include myImpact products like credit cards and our SME Hub.
“There will also be a Felda Masterclass organised by Maybank on financial literacy and protection against financial scams and fraud.
“By participating in Hari Peneroka, Maybank aims to empower and make it easier for Felda’s communities to grow and protect their wealth for their current, and future generations’ needs, while learning more about sustainability.”
Maybank added that participants will have the opportunity to learn from other
entrepreneurs, best practices in agriculture, and financial solutions that can support their aspirations, such as business development, retirement savings, investment products, and education planning.
“They can also interact with other settlers, industry experts, and potential partners to access new business ideas, opportunities, and collaborations. Maybank looks forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with everyone!”
Group executive chairman of Abra Group, Datuk Abd Rauf Ahmad, found out about the carnival through Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, and was eager to know more about it.
“All this while, when we look at Settlers’ Day, it’s all about Felda, it’s for the settlers… perhaps the conversations are about fertilisers and palm oil,” said Abd Rauf.
“But when the plans were presented (to us) in detail, it was more than that… for me, it’s a crowd puller.
He added that Abra Group was in the textile business and saw this as an opportunity to come on board as a sponsor, “as we can highlight and advertise our products”.
