Since the Covid-19 pandemic last year, many have turned to online services.
Hoping to capitalise on this, Trevo Malaysia is helping car owners reduce the burden of car ownership with the introduction of Trevo Guard, a motor insurance renewal service available to all car owners via the Trevo application.
With Trevo Guard, the policies offered are curated to focus on those with special policy features catering to the mandatory insurance needs of car owners in the modern P2P car-sharing and e-hailing ecosystem.
Among the benefits of renewing your insurance via the app are a free temporary replacement car of the same model or similar car segment, for up to seven days per year if the insured car is unable to be driven, as well as the complimentary use of a personal ‘buddy driver’ to drive them in their car for two two-hour trips per year.
“Imagine going on a date and you can impress your date with a ‘chauffeur’ coming to pick you up,” joked Leon Foong, group chief executive officer of Socar and Trevo Malaysia.
“If you have gone out for drinks with friends, it would be wiser to have a ‘buddy driver’ to take you home.
“The government is taking serious steps to curb drink driving and we feel this incentive will be a big help.”
Foong said the company did a survey recently and 40 per cent responded positively to online insurance renewal.
He added Trevo Guard is not the first such application to offer this service but the add-ons like ‘buddy driver’ make it more attractive.
“Don’t worry, we will vet everyone to ensure it is completely safe,” he said.
Meanwhile, Susan Teoh, general manager of Trevo Malaysia, said if Trevo hosts are among the first 1,000 who renewed their insurance via the app, they would receive an RM128 cash rebate.
“We have seen more and more people embracing the P2P marketplace, in the 14 months since we launched,” said Teoh.
“From the Klang Valley to our expansion into Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Johor Bahru, we’ve grown our membership to 121,000 people, with more than 4,600 cars listed.
“This is a clear indication that while private car ownership remains popular among Malaysians, they also want new ways to alleviate the burdens and hassles that come with owning a car.”

OVER 2,000 COVID-19 CASES TODAY
Malaysia recorded 2,148 Covid-19 cases today with the highest cases in Sarawak (512) followed by Selangor (459) and Kelantan (221).
The last time the country recorded over 2,000 cases was on March 5 (2,154).
The Health Ministry has also suggested interstate travel for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri (May 13 and 14) be “postponed”.
However, those living in other states can return to their hometowns to take their parents or grandparents for their Covid-19 vaccination.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said those intending to travel will only have to show proof of their parents’ or grandparents’ appointments.
PM: EMERGENCY NOT TO VIOLATE HUMAN RIGHTS
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reiterated that the state of emergency in the country is solely to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking at an engagement session with business industry players at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry this morning, Muhyiddin said the sole rationale behind the declaration was to fast track the necessary legislative measures related to the management of the pandemic.
“This covers matters related to the use of private hospital assets, temporary land ownership, buildings or private hospital moveable property and to allow the use of private hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients,” Muhyiddin said.
“So, please be assured that there is no sinister motive behind this declaration of Emergency.
“Again, I must reiterate that the Emergency will not be used to violate human rights, private property and other legal rights. Malaysia is a firm believer of the rule of law and hence, we will not behave in a manner that is derogatory to the legal principles that we hold dear,” he added.
MAN WHO ALLEGEDLY CANED BODYGUARDS FOR FASTING REMANDED
A man who allegedly assaulted two of his bodyguards for fasting has been picked up by police.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said he would be remanded until April 17 to help investigations.
A police report was lodged by a 26-year-old bodyguard yesterday after he and his colleague were slapped and beaten with a cane before a gun was allegedly pointed at one of them when they told their boss they were fasting.

Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Bhd (PLUS) has detected several methods in which drivers avoid paying tolls and said the company will not hesitate to take legal action against the culprits.
PLUS also reminded vehicle owners, especially companies that owned heavy vehicles, to be more responsible and ensure their drivers paid the toll when using the highway.
This came after the Federal Court recently held a logistics company “vicariously liable” when its drivers and employees failed to pay toll fares.
PLUS had filed a suit against Berjasa Logistics Sdn Bhd to recover unpaid toll fares involving 19 vehicles registered to the company and driven by its employees over the past few years.
“The decision of the Shah Alam High Court on July 20, 2017, allowing PLUS’ claims amounting to RM518,369.27 and costs of RM100,000 following the failure of their drivers to pay toll fares was upheld,” PLUS said in its statement.
“PLUS has identified several toll fraud tactics by heavy vehicle drivers and is taking the necessary preventive measures, including initiating legal action,” added the concessionaire without elaborating the fraud tactics.

More investment and attention should be given to women athletes for them to stand on par with their male compatriots.
Senior sports administrator Prof Datuk Dr Shamala Subramaniam said once women athletes truly receive the recognition they deserve, the narratives regarding their success would be similar to that of men.
“If we are in a domain or phase of life where we are discussing gender equality, then an accelerated effort is needed to address this. There must be huge investments in sports concerning women athletes,” Shamala told Twentytwo13.
