The name Nicky Liow Soon Hee has been making headlines these past few weeks.
Liow, who is on the police most wanted list, is the alleged ring leader of the Macau scam syndicate.
The 33-year-old founder of Winner Dynasty Group Sdn Bhd is a Datuk Seri and also has a dozen cases on his criminal record, including drugs and assault.
In her column in news portal Getaran this week, Twentytwo13 managing editor Pearl Lee said Liow is also cunning.
At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic last year, Winner Dynasty Group donated millions of face masks to frontliners, including the police, army, schools and even media companies.
Pearl said this got the public wondering how someone like Liow was bestowed a Datuk Seri title? Which state did he receive the title from and why has it not been revoked until today?
Although such prerogative lies with our royal institution, it has become the talk of the town.
She added questions have also been raised after 34 government officers, including policemen and immigration officers, are said to have been on Liow’s payroll. These corrupt officers had also leaked information that enabled Liow to escape during Ops Pelican 3.0 which was meant to hunt him down.
These questions will not just end with Liow’s arrest. There need to be answers.
