Ahmad Hafidz Muhamad Aidal is still replaying Chelsea’s Champions League victory from four months ago in his mind.
The graphic designer believes if the Chelsea players can tap into that momentous victory over Manchester City, it would be the boost they need to regain the English Premier League crown the Blues last won in 2017.
He shares with Twentytwo13 his thoughts for the season, the return of Romelu Lukaku and the future of Timo Werner.
How long have you been a fan? What prompted you to support Chelsea?
Hafidz: I’ve been supporting Chelsea since 1998. It was the era of Gianfranco Zola, Gus Poyet and Tore Andre Flo. I fell in love with Zola, and I have always loved the colour blue.
Are you happy Romelu Lukaku is back with Chelsea? What can he bring to the squad?
Hafidz: For sure, yes. Lukaku’s an all-rounded powerhouse, a complete package of a striker. But, most importantly, we can agree that he has grown and developed as a player (since his first stint at Chelsea in 2011-2014).
Do you think Timo Werner can find his form after a subdued performance last season?
Hafidz: I think with Lukaku’s signing, Werner will be able to relive his Leipzig glory days. One reason why he thrived at Leipzig was that he wasn’t a lone ranger. Werner plays better when he has a partner up front. Lukaku can create space for him.
Where do you see Chelsea ending up this season? Do you think winning the Champions League would have given the players a confidence boost?
Hafidz: Yes, it was a significant victory. With the current squad, Chelsea should be a valid candidate for all the titles on the table. I am optimistic that they can win the Premier League crown and retain the Champions League trophy.
What is your opinion of Thomas Tuchel?
Hafidz: He has worked wonders since replacing Frank Lampard in January. Before Tuchel joined, we were ninth in the table. We eventually finished fourth and won the Champions League.
