Parents are in a dilemma about sending their children to schools given the Covid-19 situation in the country.
This was highlighted by Twentytwo13‘s Pearl Lee in her column in news portal Getaran yesterday.
With remote learning not as effective, returning to schools appears to be the best way forward.
However, not all parents feel the same and it is only natural in light of the pandemic.
There are also children who live with their grandparents and being in the high-risk group, parents simply do not want to put the lives of their loved ones in jeopardy.
This has prompted some parents to start a petition to close schools until there are fewer than 100 cases in each red zone.
So how does the learning process go on?
Pearl noted that while some may have doubts about whether teachers and school administrators will do all they can to ensure the safety of their children, she said parents should also look at themselves in the mirror.
Are parents adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs) when they are out? As parents are we wearing our face mask properly or is it hanging under our chin?
In the era of the new normal, the responsibility of parents is not just for their own children but also their children’s friends, teachers and other staff in the school.
Are parents themselves doing enough? What role can parents play to ensure the entire ecosystem is safe?
