Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) has suspended its deputy president Kau Git Kaur with immediate effect after he was identified as one of the 17 people picked up by police at a drug party in Puchong over the weekend.

Kau, 53, who won the nation’s first artistic gymnastics SEA Games gold medal in 1991, was arrested alongside Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah and an officer with the Youth and Sports Ministry.

MGF president Rachel Lau, when contacted this morning, said: “Our deputy president was said to be among those picked up by the police.

“The disciplinary committee decided last night to suspend Kau with immediate effect until the case is resolved. We will issue the letter to him today.

“The decision to relieve him of his duty was taken based on clauses 11.1.1, 11.1.2, 11.1.3 and 12.2 of MGF constitution related to ‘Disiplin ahli dan pemberhentian dan pemecatan ahli’.”

MGF’s disciplinary committee comprises MGF vice-presidents Kol. Al Hambra Tun Juhar (chairman), Dr Farah Hani Imran, assistant treasurer Datuk Shamrat Gupta and Terengganu president and former MGF president Abdul Razak Mat Amin.

Lau added Kau attended an MGF meeting on Saturday morning and appeared to be “intoxicated”.

“He was loud and rude and threatened several committee members,” said Lau.

He said police found all 17 people “in a daze and in the midst of partying” and that his officers discovered a transparent plastic packet containing powder believed to be ketamine, a glass plate with some traces of powder believed to be ketamine and a suspected ganja cigarette.

Police also seized a deck of cards and several chips believed to be used for gambling.

The suspects, including five women, were released after police completed initial investigations. Sixteen of them tested positive for drug consumption.

When asked about the police raid, the woman kept saying “not sure” before hanging up.

Efforts to contact Kau proved futile.
