An anticipated meeting between KL Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan and KL Hockey Association (KLHA) officials could see the hockey body staying put at KL Hockey Stadium.
A source said City Hall had, as a formality, written to KLHA on Feb 27, 2019 asking it to vacate the stadium “immediately” as its contract had expired on Aug 31 last year.
The dark clouds may clear, however, after KLHA officials told Nor Hisham of their predicament when they met during a function at a mall on Saturday, the source said.
“It was a brief but positive chat and the mayor is eager to assist and has even informed (City Hall’s Culture, Arts, Tourism and Sports Department director) Nazam Harun that he would like to meet the officials and to revisit the contract.”
Another source confirmed a meeting was being planned although no date has been set.
“Nazam is in Macau for a working trip and will only return this weekend. We’ve not received a date from the mayor’s office as well. For now, it’s status quo as the department is still liaising with KLHA over stadium bookings and other related matters.”
The insider, however, was unable to confirm if KLHA has made an appeal or if the association had requested a contract extension. KLHA has been managing the stadium on behalf of City Hall over the years and conducts its development programmes and organises competitions at the venue.
KLHA officials could not be reached for comment.
