Kuala Kangsar health clinic finally gets royal opening

The Kuala Kangsar health clinic in Perak has finally been given the recognition it deserves, three years after opening its doors to the public.

The RM20.75 million clinic, built under the 11th Malaysia Plan, started operations on Jan 4, 2021 – at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. This resulted in its official launch to be postponed, until today.

This morning, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, officially opened the health clinic. He was joined by his consort, Raja Permaisuri Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Puan Besar Perak, Raja Nazhatul Shima Idris Shah, and Raja DiHilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Idris Shah. Also present were Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, and Perak Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The clinic provides primary healthcare services to an estimated 60,000 people living in the sub-districts of Kota Lama Kiri, Kota Lama Kanan, Sayong, and Senggang. The clinic has, among others, a laboratory, a pharmacy, and an x-ray machine.

Dzulkefly, in his speech, said the number of patients had increased from 300 to 400 people per day in 2021, to between 500 and 700 people per day, in 2023.

“This increase is not simply because more people are unhealthy. It is also attributable to the delivery of more effective healthcare services,” he said.

“This is important to increase public health awareness on infectious, and non-communicable diseases that can be screened, dealt with, and contained early.”
