Hirata and Stamp in Jihin’s way

Jihin Radzuan

Malaysian atomweight sensation Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan predicts there will be two stars to watch in the ONE women’s atomweight division this year.

The Johor Baru native is certain Itsuki “Strong Heart Fighter” Hirata and ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion Stamp Fairtex have what it takes to climb to the top and challenge ONE atomweight queen “Unstoppable” Angela Lee.

“In 2019, two athletes who impressed me the most were Stamp and Hirata. They were simply unstoppable, and it showed in their undefeated records too,” the Malaysian said.

“Stamp did really well transitioning into mixed martial arts from Muay Thai and kickboxing, while Hirata showcased her unique skills on the ground twice last year. It’s getting serious in the division.”

Stamp captured the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai world titles before making the switch to mixed martial arts.

Thus far the change has been a walk in the park for the Thai warrior who registered three consecutive wins, her most recent being against Puja “The Cyclone” Tomar at ONE: A New Tomorrow last month.

Hirata maintained her 100 per cent finish rate with impressive wins over Nyrene Crowley, Rika Ishige, and Angelie “D Explorer” Sabanal.

“They’re up there right now, and for this year, I would love to see them take on each other,” said Jihin.

“It’ll be interesting to see how their styles clash. Stamp is a very good attacker while Hirata can dig her way to a win on the canvas.”

Shadow Cat said the two losses she suffered in 2019 have pushed her down the charts, but she is working tirelessly at Ultimate MMA Academy to make another statement in ONE Championship this year.

For now, the martial artist wants to take it one step at a time and face off against a few more names before sharing the circle with one of the ladies above.

“Right now, I’m not in the same category as Hirata and Stamp. I do want to get back up there in the top five at least, to show that I have what it takes to fight the best.”

Jihin’s sole win of 2019 was against Jomary Torres in July which brought her record to 5-2.

ONE Championship goes to Singapore next for ONE: King of the Jungle on Friday, Feb 28.
