The past few months have been an emotional roller-coaster ride for Goh Jin Wei.
But things are starting to look up for the women’s singles player, who turned 22 yesterday. The two-time world junior champion is eager to keep the off-court drama at bay and greet the Year of the Tiger with optimism and zest.
“I’m just looking forward to chilling out with my family members and friends,” said Goh.
This year’s Chinese New Year celebration is more relaxed compared to the past two years. However, many remain cautious, thanks to the Omicron variant.
“There wouldn’t be anything special either, other than the meet-up,” she said.
“But that’s what I actually miss … I miss meeting up with my friends and family.
“It’s been really tough for everyone over the past two years.”
Goh said her parents and elder sister will have steamboat during the reunion dinner tonight – a customary dish in the Goh household.
“It’s something we enjoy eating at every reunion dinner, without fail!”
Goh battled a stomach ailment, forcing her to make the painful decision to leave the national stable in September last year.
As things started to look better for Goh, she signed up as an independent player with KLRC Bhd.
However, Goh was dealt a severe blow after the BA of Malaysia (BAM) slapped her, and another shuttler Lee Zii Jia, with a two-year suspension. The decision sparked a huge public outcry.
She now hopes that the new year will promise more positive outcomes.
“I would like to wish everyone good health. That’s the most important thing in life.
“I also truly hope everyone will be blessed with good luck and fortune ahead of a promising 2022,” she added.
