Don’t panic, firing of cannon part of King’s installation ceremony

Those living and working around Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur have been told to stay calm as cannons will be fired this Friday and Saturday as part of the King’s installation ceremony.

Faidz Sanusi (main image), the head of corporate communications with the Prime Minister’s Department, said the cannons will be fired by the 41st Royal Artillery Regiment during the rehearsals on July 19 at 8.30am, and during the installation on July 20, also at 8.30am.

“The organiser would like to inform the public, especially those in Kuala Lumpur, not to panic when they hear the cannons being fired, which can be heard even by those driving along Jalan Sultan Abdul Halim on those two days,” said Faidz on RTM1’s ‘Selamat Pagi Malaysia’ this morning.

Faidz also revealed the list of events lined up for the installation of Sultan Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong. They include:

July 18 – 5.30pm: Recitation of Surah Yasin and doa selamat (thanksgiving) prayers at Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
July 19 – 1.15pm: Special Friday sermon to be delivered in Masjid Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
July 29 – 8.15pm: Royal Banquet at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.
July 23 – 9.30am: Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raja Zarith Sofiah to visit Hospital Orang Asli Gombak, Selangor.
July 27 – 3pm: Royal Tea Party in Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur.

He added there will also be a ‘Raja Kita’ (Our King) exhibition at Muzium Negara from July 26 to Sept 29.

“Everyone is invited to watch the historical event live via RTM on July 20. The live feed will also be aired by private television stations,” Faidz said.

“The live event will also be aired on outdoor screens at all 222 Parliamentary constituencies this Saturday. The exact locations will be announced by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil soon.

“The idea for the outdoor screens is to enable the people to watch the ceremony, which is filled with customs and traditions. We want Malaysians nationwide to celebrate this important event together and to appreciate the uniqueness of our constitutional monarchy in Malaysia,” he added.
