City vs Chelsea: Who will sing the Blues on Saturday?

Manchester City can cement its position as title favourite when it hosts Chelsea in the English Premier League tomorrow (8.30pm).

The battle of the Blues sees City top of the standings with 53 points, 10 ahead of Chelsea after 21 games each.

Third-placed Liverpool is on 42 points, having played 20 matches.

City is in red-hot form, having won 11 league games and four cup matches since a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Oct 30.

Chelsea, meanwhile, only has four wins and six draws from its last 11 league games.

The London outfit’s goalkeeper, and the man many regard as its player of the season, Edouard Mendy, will miss the game. The Senegal international is playing in the African Cup of Nations (Afcon).

That should hand City an advantage. The Manchester club also has one player in Afcon – Riyad Mahrez – but has a capable replacement in Raheem Sterling.

Odds are, City will stretch its lead at the top of the table.

Separately, Liverpool hopes to return to its winning ways, when Brentford visits on Sunday (10pm), after drawing its last two league matches.

The teams drew 3-3 in September in an exciting and open match that the newly-promoted side could have won.

Two other big matches are happening – Aston Villa vs Manchester United (Sunday, 1.30am) and Tottenham vs Arsenal (Monday, 12.30am).

Villa suffered a 1-0 loss to United in the FA Cup third round on Tuesday, and is hoping for a quick revenge.

Tottenham, meanwhile, can continue its good form under Antonio Conte by overtaking Arsenal in fourth spot in the standings if it wins the home match. Conte is unbeaten since taking over in November.
