Manchester City and Chelsea cruised into the Champions League semifinals in midweek where they face Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively.
It sets up the possibility of a third all-English final, with Liverpool-Tottenham Hotspur (2019) and Manchester United-Chelsea (2008) being the other two.
Before that, though, City and Chelsea face each other in the FA Cup semifinals on Sunday (12.30am).
Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel will hope to register his first-ever victory over Pep Guardiola, who denied him on five occasions when he was the boss of Bayern Munich.
Tuchel lost twice to Guardiola as boss of Mainz. When he took charge of Borussia Dortmund, he drew one and lost three league matches.
Another drawn match was the 2015-16 DFB-Pokal Cup final which Dortmund eventually lost on penalties.
For the record, although Bayern won the Cup, the match was considered a draw with victory on penalties by football authorities.
City, chasing an unprecedented quadruple – League, League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League – in the same season, reached the final four of the world’s oldest football tournament playing against only one top-flight opponent, Everton in the quarterfinals.
Chelsea, likewise, only faced one fellow Premiership club, Sheffield United, also in the quarterfinals.
The other semifinal is between Leicester and Southampton on Monday (1.30am).
For Leicester and Southampton, this is their third all-Premiership match-up in the knockout competition.
Leicester defeated Brighton in the fifth round and Manchester United in the quarterfinals.
The Saints, meanwhile, ousted defending champion Arsenal in the fourth round and Wolves in the following round.
Speaking of Wolves, its next opponent in the Premier League is bottom-placed Sheffield United on Sunday (3.15am).
Wolves has only won once in its last five matches. Sheffield has a similar record but with four defeats on the bounce.
Sheffield only has 14 points from 31 games and needs a miracle to survive. If it can pull something off against a fast-fading Wolves, then it might give the club a glimmer of hope.
Separately, Tottenham will be busy as it has two matches – one on Saturday (3am) against Everton and another against Southampton on Thursday (1am).
The match against the Saints was scheduled for March 20 but was postponed due to Southampton’s involvement in the FA Cup.
Spurs desperately needs the points after only collecting seven points out of a possible 15 in recent times.
