Always look on the bright side

Dear Diary,

We seem to have Covid-19 under control as for the seventh time in eight days, the number of new cases is in double digits.

Many of us are itching to go out but we can’t for fear of being arrested and handcuffed. But our satisfaction is knowing our efforts of obeying the law is working. It is always good to look at the positives.

Here’s how Day 36 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) unfolded.

7.09am: TEAM PLAYER – Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah thanks his ‘fab four’ for helping in the fight against Covid-19.

8.53am: DANCE WITH ME – Not a fan of TikTok but this one from Datuk Nicol David’s Instagram put a smile on my face.

10.34am: ‘MASKED’ ANGEL – 55-year-old American Deb Siggins has sewn hundreds of face masks and hung them on a tree near her home for friends, family, neighbours and community members

11am: CALLING OUT POLITICIANS – Recording for the RSS with HD Extended got a little heated. The YouTube show premiered at 4pm.

12.23pm: CONFUSION CONTINUES – Malaysia Airlines says it will not allow passenger without face masks to fly but Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob has said they are not mandatory.

2pm: START YOUR ENGINES – Those wishing to return to the city can apply for permits at the nearest police station from Saturday but with a prior appointment with the police. Alternatively, they can use the Gerak Malaysia app

Oh, and this is still subject to approval from the National Security Council and will be known after May 1.

Separately, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof says 19,077 construction companies and other firms within the industry had applied to operate during the MCO but only 1.856 applicants were approved.

3.16pm: 10,000 CASES – Singapore’s Covid-19 Cases exceeds 10,000 with 1,016 new ones as of noon. Its circuit breaker (MCO in Malaysia) was extended until June 1 yesterday.

4.40pm: MACGYVER IT – The handle broke sometime back and today’s wind was so strong.

5.01pm: UNDER CONTROL – 50 new cases take the total to 5,532 while 103 patients discharged from hospital, taking those cured to 3,452. This means there are only 1,987 active cases. Sadly, one death makes it 93 fatalities.

6pm: BIG YELLOW TAXI – In honour of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day today, here’s Joni Mitchell.
