The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, celebrates his 65th birthday today.

The sultan and his royal household are famed for their down-to-earth characters, evident during his reign as the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Born on July 30, 1959, Al-Sultan Abdullah is the eldest son of Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Ampuan Afzan.

His consort, Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, led the list of 24 recipients of the state honours in conjunction with Al-Sultan Abdullah’s birthday.

Tunku Azizah and eight other recipients were conferred the Sri Setia Al-Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah (SAAS) award, which carries the title Datuk Seri Setia, at an investiture ceremony held in Balai Mahkota, Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan, this morning.

Those who also received the newly-introduced SAAS award were Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan Al-Sultan Abdullah, Tengku Arif Temenggung Tengku Fahad Mua’adzam Shah Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, Tengku Puteri Seri Teja Puan Sri Tengku Muhaini Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala Tengku Datuk Seri Aishah Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, Tengku Puteri Seri Lela Manja Tengku Datuk Seri Nong Fatimah Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah, and Tengku Puteri Seri Bongsu Tengku Datuk Seri Shahariah Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Sultan Nazrin takes closer look at drying Taiping Lake Gardens

Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim visited Taiping Lake Gardens yesterday. The royal couple were there to take a closer look at lakes and ponds that had dried up following a dry spell in the historical town. They took the opportunity to mingle with locals.

Despite the dry spell in ironically the “wettest town in Malaysia”, the state government said it would not carry out cloud seeding activities, as the ponds at the iconic lake gardens were solely for recreation.

Earlier in the day, Sultan Nazrin officially opened the 7th World Conference on Islamic Thought and Civilisation (WCIT) in Ipoh before officiating the Taiping Syariah Court Complex on the same day.
